BUDGETING FOR YOUR FITOUT: WHAT TO CONSIDER

Put simply, in order to run the very best dental or medical clinic, you need a great dental or medical clinic fitout!

Why? Firstly, for your patients: because visiting the doctor or the dentist can be stressful, and a well-designed and pleasant environment can simply make it better and keep them coming back and recommending your clinic.

Not just that, your staff will be happier and more productive, your business will be more efficient - and that's all great for what is, at the end of the day, your valuable business.

However, while it's lovely to live in the fantasy world of endless budgets, we all know that's not how the business world operates.

In truth, no one knows your business and your finances better than you, so you almost certainly already have a rough budget to work to.

So as you look to stay on budget and hope to have some change left over afterwards or if you need to consider adding a few dollars here and there, here are some things to bear in mind.

1. AGREE A BUDGET

Sit down with a medical or dental fitout professional and agree upon a plan. If it's contained within the four sides of a sheet of paper, it will be easier to keep track with your progress as you proceed.

2. PRIORITISE

Start with the most important interior design elements of your fit out, and prioritise down from there. Again, consulting closely with the professionals who are assisting you will mean the priorities of your space, and how to best achieve them within your budget, are unanimously known and understood.

3. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Of course, it's easy to say 'prioritise', but you also need to know precisely what you want and what you do not want. Similarly, what you want and what you really need can be different, so you need to differentiate between the two.

4. BE PRAGMATIC

Exit that fitout 'dream world' and really consider if what you 'need' is really that. Do your homework, and ask yourself some tough questions, like 'Does every room really need to be started again from scratch?'

5. RESEARCH

Being pragmatic is only possible with knowledge, so seek out any industry standard guidelines and benchmarks you can get your hands on to sort out the really crucial parts of your fit out. This will not only save you time in the long-run, but money as well - both now and in terms of efficiency in the future.
